Tour in the Rock of Gibraltar and Contemplation of Dolphins
Suggested activity for 16 to 88 people. The Rock of Gibraltar is located at the entrance to the Mediterranean, almost 1,400 feet high, also known as the Column of Hercules. On this tour we will see the main attractions that Gibraltar offers. We will leave the pier and move towards the city, in Waterport Gates, to continue north below the Glacis Bridge, built by the Italian prisoners of war, and towards the Cross of Sacrifice, erected in commemoration of the soldiers who died during the two world wars. The route then passes by the airport runway to the British / Spanish border (the only airport in the world that has to stop the vehicles to allow the planes to land and deploy). After taking some photos with the naughty monkeys that we will find in the tour, we will continue along the upper part of the rock to leave the Natural Reserve at the foot of the Castle of the Moors. The tour continues through the Linewall road to arrive at the landing site and begin with the dolphin contemplation. Few people know that Gibraltar is one of the best places in the world to see several cetaceans throughout the year – the local waters are home to three species of dolphins, the striped dolphin, the bottle nosed and the common dolphin, seven species of whales, flying fish, turtles and moonfish.
Excursion to Nerja-Frigiliana
We will go to Nerja, a charming and typical Andalusian city, located very close to the largest prehistoric caves in Europe, which we will visit as soon as we arrive. The caves of Nerja were discovered by chance by 5 boys from the Maro neighborhood when they were playing. This spectacular discovery brought even General Franco to inaugurate it in 1961. In summer, classical ballet and flamenco performances are organized. We will continue to the Balcón de Europa in Nerja to see its terrace, named after King Alfonso XII. Here we will have free time to visit the shopping area before continuing the bus trip to the unique white village of Frigiliana. We will walk through charming streets until we reach a terrace on top, to enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the town. In 1568-1571 Frigiliana became a very important bastion for the uprising of Moors from Granada and in almost every corner of the town you can read some legends about their struggle against the Christian troops of John of Austria (half brother of King Philip II). We can have lunch in Frigiliana before returning to the hotel.
