Sevilla is…

Seville is located in the Southeast of Spain. It is the provincial capital, seat of the government and parliament of the Comunidad Autónoma de Sevilla (Regional Government) and counts more than 700,000 inhabitants, nearly half the population of the whole province. The city of Seville is located on the plain of the Guadalquivir River which crosses the city from North to South. The river can be navigated from Seville all the way to its outlet near Sanlúcar de Barrameda, on the Atlantic coast.

In the past the port of Seville played an important role in commerce between Spain and the Americas and it remains today one of the most active river ports of the Iberian Peninsula. When you visit this city, you are in the very heart of Andalusian culture, the center of bullfighting and Flamenco music.

Take yourself time and take life easy, as Andalusians use to do, and interrupt sightseeing from time to time to have a few “tapas”, those typical “small spanish dishes”, and a glass of Sherry wine in one of the probably thousands of bars in this city, and consider a few of the hints on the following pages to make your stay a memorable one.

Don’t miss out on the tapas. The city is credited with the invention and has more than a thousand bars where the choice of food, is virtually unlimited, from seafood to ham and sausage and from vegetable to cheese. The Sevillians actually make a meal of them, moving from bar to bar and trying one dish at a time.

Thanks to the Cruise Torre del Oro you will discover the river Guadalquivir: Millennium River, romantic and legendary, the river of the discoverers of America. It is the only navigable river in Spain.
The Cruise Torre del Oro has a modern fleet of vessels available for groups and individuals.

The Guadalquivir springs from the Cazorla Mountains, in the province of Jaén. It crosses the provinces of Cordoba and Seville, and joins the Atlantic Ocean at Sanlucar de Barrameda in the province of Cadiz. The river is approximately 650 km long, and is navigable for 100 km from Seville to Sanlucar de Barrameda. The river has played an important part in the history of Seville. Guadalquivir is the Arabic name for the river, which means Big River. Its Roman name was Betis, which is the name of the street that runs parallel to the river on the Triana side. Seville was the departure point for Christopher Columbus’s fleet in his voyage to discover America. In fact, the explorer spent much time planning his trip in the Monastery of St. Mary of the Caves on the Cartuja Island.

The Cruise Torre del Oro is the perfect place to discover the city. One hour sailing, visiting the classical and modern Seville, fully commentated in Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, German and Italian. This trip will complete your image of Seville.

Tapas Tour

It is a different and fresh way to discover the city and most emblematic spots with a nice combination of gastronomy and local tradition.

Seville is the artistic, cultural and financial capital of southern Spain. It is the capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia and of the province of Seville. It is situated on the plain of the River Guadalquivir.

At first you will use the coach to see the new boulevards of the City from the time of the International Expo in 1929, where we find the Park of Maria Luisa and Plaza España. You will make a shortstop to visit some of the lovely spots at the gardens before continuing along the river bank of the Guadalquivir, enjoying a panoramic view of the Torre del Oro, La Maestranza bullring, Córdoba station and a panoramic view of the Location of the World Exposition EXPO’92 that has brought many changes in Sevilla.

Then, you will arrive to the old walls of La Macarena, visit the Macarena Chapel, which homes one of the most popular images of the Holy Virgin in City. Not so far from here we have the city downtown, where we find the Sevilla’s Cathedral.

Face to face to this area we find the Palace of The Royal Alcazares, in an Arabian style, built during various epochs. Its first fortifications probably date from 884 and were made to defend the town from the Normans. Later on Moorish Caliph Mohammed V built here a king’s palace by architects and artists from Granada and Toledo.

In this tour we’ll take you shopping for tapas bar in Seville as the Spanish do. The “tapas” have become a different way of eating: more agile, enjoyable, varied and social. We’ll try different specialties and local products in traditional bars of the city. An itinerary conceived to show you the great variety of the Spanish Tapas!
